Author Guidelines

Journal of Social and Educational Research which accepts the research articles and review articles in English is a double-blind peer-review journal. Please write your text in good English (American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of these).

All manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the editorial team at https://www.journalser.com/jser/login. For questions or inquiries about manuscripts, please contact the editors. Inquiries regarding original manuscripts should be directed at editor@journalser.com. Manuscripts may not be submitted via e-mail.

Manuscript Categories

  • Research Articles – reports of new research findings or conceptual analyses that make a significant empirical and/or novel theoretical contributions to the existing social and education literature. Manuscripts should not exceed 35 double spaced A4 pages (Calibri 12-pt. font), inclusive of references, figures and tables.
  • Reviews Articles – may include meta-analyses or conceptual work resulting in significant new theoretical insights into the field of social and educational sciences. To be considered for publication, these must go beyond merely summarizing the extant literature.
  • Short Communications - are typically narrower in scope than a Research Article. Nonetheless, they contribute to the literature, e.g., due to their: unique sample; replication of a high-profile finding in need of independent confirmation; validation of significant measures in the field; or the development of new measures. Manuscripts should not exceed 17 double spaced A4 pages (Calibri 12-pt. font), inclusive of references, figures and tables. Occasionally, action editors may request that a Research Article be resubmitted as a Short Communication.

Preparing The Submission

Cover Letters

Cover letters are not mandatory; however, they may be supplied at the author's discretion.

Parts of the Manuscript

The manuscript should be submitted in separate files: title page; main text file.

Title page

The title page should contain:

  • A short informative title that contains the major key words. The title should not contain abbreviations,
  • The full names of the authors,
  • The author's institutional affiliations and ORCIDs,
  • Corresponding author’s contact email address and telephone number,
  • Acknowledgments (If any)
  • Conflict of Interest statement (for all authors); "The author(s) declared no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article."
  • Funding; "This study was funded by […]" or "No funds, grants, or other support was received."
  • Ethical approval; "The study was performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its following updates."
  • Consent to participate; "Informed consent was obtained from all the individual participants that were included in the study."
  • Data accessibility statement; "Data will be available on request."

Main page

Main text should contain (make sure it is suitable for double-blind):

  • Title; The title should be concise and informative.
  • Abstract; Please provide an abstract of 150 to 250 words.
  • Keywords; Please provide 4 to 6 keywords.
  • Introduction; State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.
  • Method; Provide sufficient details to allow the work to be reproduced by an independent researcher.
  • Results; Results should be clear and concise.
  • Discussion; This should explore the significance of the results of the work, not repeat them. A combined Results and Discussion section is often appropriate.
  • References; References should be prepared using the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 7th) for style.
  • Table(s) and Figure(s); Tables and figures should be constructed so as to be intelligible without reference to this text, each table and column being provided with a heading.

Use of language

Authors should note that they are writing for an international audience. National colloquialisms and idiomatic use of language should be avoided to the extent possible. Word choices and sentence constructions that might imply bias against persons on the basis of gender, racial or ethnic group membership, disability, sexual orientation, or age should be avoided.

Further Considerations

  • Manuscript has been 'spell checked' and 'grammar checked'
  • All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa
  • Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Internet)

References Rules

The citation and reference presentation of works, which is to be submitted to the Journal of Social and Educational Research, should be prepared following APA 7th rules. For more information please visit the APA website: https://apastyle.apa.org/
